Time for Action

In order to meet my goal of using technology to communicate and collaborate with peers, parents, and the larger community to nurture students learning, I need exposure and practice with current technology programs. The resources I will need are continued research of current trends and attendance to conferences and seminars. Success with technology will come with patience and practice.

To be successful with technology one needs to be flexible and confident in experimenting with different soft and hard ware. Therefore, what I need most is the time to experiment and implement technology into classroom practice and communication. My main goal is to meet the needs of all learners and to prepare students to be successful in the uncertain future.

The steps I have taken so far are familiarizing myself with blogging and podcasting sites and functions. Also, I am earning my degree in integrating technology into the classroom which has exposed me to many new programs and allowed me to practice using them. I am also registered to attend a conference this summer on how to support the 21st Century Learner. I plan to continue to implement new programs each year and to seek out support from colleagues and professional organizations.

  1. Courtney,

I don't mean to imply that you haven't considered the obvious, but there are many good online tutorials about many of the tech resources we have been talking about and will be using through out this course.

I don't know what your personal learning style may be and so online learning may not be your cup of tea, but for me the resources and tutorials available online have taught me a lot about how to use the technologies I have available, and even the ones that I don't, that I wish I did have.

I recommend you set aside some time this summer to explore the web to teach yourself as well as attend conferences and training sessions.

  2. Hi, Courtney,

Can you recommend a resource for finding good quality conferences and training seminars on technology? Once in a while when I am substituting I will catch something posted on the bulletin board in a random teacher lounge. Now is the perfect time in my career to utilize the opportunity to learn new strategies while I am not grading papers, planning lessons, etc. I would appreciate any suggestions for online training and I am also flexible to travel for larger events if you know of an organization that is offering reputable regular programs.

    Thanks!

  3. Courtney,

It sounds like you are on the right track for enacting your game plan. I think it is great that you are attending a conference this summer to help you learn more about 21st century skill learners. This I am sure will be very bennifical.

  4. Courtney,

I think your are taking some good steps toward your plan. I agree with taking time to experiment and getting to know new hardware and software. It can be very overwhelming to have so many tools and understanding them enough to implement them in the correct way. Good luck!
